Washington's Cascade mountains are among the most rugged in the contiguous United States, capped by 14,411 foot Mt. Rainier. Mt. Shuksan is the most-photographed peak in the world, but most photographers visit in the summer, not the still of winter twilight. Mt. Baker raises its rounded volcanic top only a few miles from Shuksan. Deep in the heart of the Cascades, accessible only by trail are Easy Ridge and Mt. Redoubt.
