Feathers Formation

This pattern of light and shadow was captured on a portion of the basalt columns known to rock climbers as the Feathers at Frenchman Coulee in central Washington. When you stand back the whole line of columns does resemble feathers standing on end. The sun was very low in the sky in early March when I made this image after a day of climbing with friends.
