Horticultural Photography,
Native Plants and More

Bellingham photographer Mark Turner specializes in photographing gardens, horticultural specimens, native plants, and northwest environments. He also maintains a small studio in downtown Bellingham to create portraits and to photograph small products. Mark is available to travel throughout the Pacific Northwest for editorial and commercial assignments. His stock photography library of gardens, native plants, and agriculture is extensive.

Mark photographs on assignment for books, magazines, and commercial clients. He will travel as required, but most of his work is in the Pacific Northwest, including Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, Idaho, and northern California. Whether you need photography of constructed environments, natural environments, large-scale landscapes, garden vignettes, plant portraits, or intimate botanical details you'll find Mark easy to work with, attentive to detail, cost effective, and able to deliver within deadlines.

Jump right in! You'll find great images from gardens, agriculture, nature, and outdoor recreation. One side of my brain is highly organized and makes sure all my images are clearly captioned, with scientific names where appropriate. The other side guides my eyes and directs my lens to frame creatively.

There are over 3000 photographs on-line here, which is just a fraction of the more than 130,000 in the file. Call or e-mail to inquire about something you need that you don't see. I create images specifically for you and your business on assignment, too.

Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest cover

Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest was released by Timber Press in March, 2006 and is now in its fourth printing. Photographer Mark Turner was on the road and hiking trails throughout Washington and Oregon throughout 2003 and 2004 to find and photograph over 1220 unique species. Phyllis Gustafson wrote the descriptions.

Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest was selected as a 2007 American Horticultural Society Book Award recipient. It has received numerous very positive reviews from plant publications. Many purchasers have shared their good experiences using the book in the field with the authors. We thank you for your support and hope you get many years of enjoyment from the book.

Order your autographed copy today from our secure order page. The page also shows a sample entry from the book. Most bookstores in the Northwest should have the book. If yours doesn't then ask them to order it for you.

View images from the book at Pacific Northwest Wildflowers. This new website is fully searchable and includes all the photos, descriptions, and distribution maps from the book, along with about 7,000 or so wildflower photos.

The wildflower photos on this site will be seriously edited down to just a few highlights soon.

Bellingham Impressions is Mark Turner's latest book, published in August, 2007 by Farcountry Press. It includes 98 photos from Bellingham and Whatcom County in an 80-page softcover format.

  What's New?

Check out my Plants, Passions, Photography blog for commentary about gardening, native plants, photography, human nature, and the environment.

Visit Mark's new website specifically for images of gardens on the east side of the Cascade Mountains. This is work in progress for a new book tentatively titled Gardening East of the Rain and West of the Cold. The book is in the first of two seasons of photography and is expected sometime in 2010. Pat Munts, garden columnist for the Spokesman-Review in Spokane is writing the text. See the photos at Inland Northwest Gardening. As of February 2008 there were about 6500 garden images on the site from the Canadian Okanagan, Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, Yakima, Richland, Kennewick, Walla Walla, Bend, John Day, Baker City, and more.

The 2008 wildflower season has just begun, with the very earliest bloomers starting to come out. The first selection of wildflowers from this year are now online from Mt. Pisgah Arboretum in Eugene, Oregon.

The Wildflowers section has been reorganized to follow the seasons.
