Poet's Shooting Star BlossomShooting Stars are among the spring ephemerals, sending up flowers early in the season when the soil is still moist from winter rains, then going dormant through the dry summer. There are many species, often difficult to tell apart. This one is Dodecatheon poeticum, Poet's Shooting Star, photographed at Catherine Creek on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. |
