Western Bog LaurelThis shrub, Kalmia microphylla ssp. occidentalis, grows in boggy areas from near sea level to the subalpine zone. These blossoms glisten with raindrops on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula along US 101 in the Olympic National Forest near the mouth of the Hoh River. I've also found it blooming beside the boardwalk at Heather Meadows near Mt. Shuksan. |
