California Pitcher Plant

California Pitcher Plant

Looking like aliens from outer space, the insect-trapping leaves of California Pitcher Plant, Darlingtonia californica, rise from serpentine fens in southern Oregon. The most accessible place to view them is the Darlingtonia Botanical Wayside off US 101 just north of Florence, Oregon. This plant was photographed in the Siskiyou National Forest near O'Brien.
