Old-growth Douglas FirDouglas Fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, is the dominant timber species in Pacific Northwest forests. With its deeply furrowed bark, it is easily recognized. In low elevation forests like this one in the Quinalt rain forest of Olympic National Park it can grow to huge sizes. The fern in the foreground is Sword Fern, Polystichum munitum. |
