Old-growth Douglas Fir

Old-growth Douglas Fir

This gigantic Douglas Fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, is growing in an unprotected grove along Mt. Baker Highway east of Bellingham. If you know where to look, you can follow a narrow path back into the woods and revel in the magnificence of these ancient trees that somehow missed the loggers' crosscut saws early in the 20th century.
