Old-growth Douglas FirThis gigantic Douglas Fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, is growing in an unprotected grove along Mt. Baker Highway east of Bellingham. If you know where to look, you can follow a narrow path back into the woods and revel in the magnificence of these ancient trees that somehow missed the loggers' crosscut saws early in the 20th century. |
