Sugar Maple Leaves in AutumnSugar Maple, Acer saccharum, gives eastern forests from Canada to Tennessee a brilliant glow of red, orange, and yellow each autumn. Its sap yields maple syrup, and its hard wood is an important timber species. These leaves were photographed with melting frost in West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest. |
