 Old-growth Douglas Fir

Old-growth Douglas Fir

The large tree with furrowed bark is Douglas Fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii. The smaller trees are Western Hemlocks, Tsuga heterophylla. Both are important timber species in the Pacific Northwest. This old-growth forest was photographed along the Watson Falls trail in Oregon's Umpqua National Forest.
