Banana Slug

Banana Slug

Without slugs, including this monster Banana Slug, Ariolimax columbianus, the Northwest would pile up with forest debris. They come in a variety of colors, from yellow to brown and black. They eat almost anything -- both living and decaying plants, bulbs, lichen, algae, fungi, animal droppings and animal carcasses. It is thought that their habit of cleaning up the forest floor helps disperse seeds throughout the forest.
