Lesser Snow Geese in FlightLesser Snow Geese, Anser caerulescens caerulescens, take flight over Fir Island at the mouth of the Skagit River in Washington. The sound of some 20,000 or more birds lifting off at once is incredible with the noise of beating wings joining with the loud calls of the geese. This population of Lesser Snow Geese winter on the Fraser and Skagit River deltas. They breed on Wrangel Island, north of the Arctic Circle, in Russia. |
