Ancient Bristlecone Pine

Ancient Bristlecone Pine

A little snow had already fallen on the Bristlecone Pines, Pinus longaeva, in the Patriarch Grove of the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, Inyo National Forest, California. The morning temperature when this image was created in mid-October was only about 25°F. Later in the day, down in the valley at Bishop the temperature reached 80°.
