Bridge at Whatcom Falls Park

Bridge at Whatcom Falls Park

This stone foot bridge was built across Whatcom Creek just downstream of the falls in Bellingham's Whatcom Falls Park in the late 1930s. This view is from the top of the falls in early autumn.

In early June, 1999 a massive fire from a leaking petroleum pipeline incinerated about a mile and a half of the creek below this point, killing three youths. Recovery of this prime salmon habitat is expected to take several years.
